Loyalty and Responsibility
It’s July! Happy new month MFH Famz. Welcome to the second half of the year. Our theme for July is “loyalty & responsibility”. Loyalty means enduring commitment to a person over a long period of time that persists in the face of obstacles. Loyalty is the trust and faithfulness that people pledge to—and expect from—each other in a relationship, such as between husband & wife, friends, brethren, nation and citizen etc. A loyal friend sticks by and proves reliable and faithful, even in adverse circumstances. Loyalty to a person doesn't come easy though - it comes with responsibility/duty.
Biblically, loyalty extends to the relationship of God with His people—a relationship based on covenant, and that expresses love from which no saint can ever be severed. Romans 8:35-39 summarizes that “because of God's loyalty to us and our loyalty to Him, nothing can separate us from our intimate loving relationship with God the Father and Jesus Christ”. Our duty is to abide in His love.
Loyalty is of great concern to God, loyalty to Him, His truth (His Word), His Kingdom, His mission, His purpose. And throughout the Scripture, God’s people are called to be loyal to Him. 1 Kings 8:61 (NKJV) says: “Let your heart therefore be loyal to the Lord our God, to walk in His statutes and keep His commandments...” King David charged Solomon in 1 Chron. 28:9 “to be loyal to God...” And Proverbs 19:22a (RSV) concludes that “what is desired in a man is loyalty…” Loyalty to God means to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength so that in every area of your being, God is honoured and glorified. Our loyalty to God will make us fulfill our duty - Eccl 12:13-14.
Loyalty to Canada means to love and seek the good of the land, and your duty is to be a good citizen - fulfilling all your obligations. Loyalty to your spouse is to love him or her unconditionally and remain faithful. In the series, we shall explore loyalty to God, the silent achievers & betrayals in the bible, loyalty to people and your nation, zeal & submission.
