The Cross: Grace and Favour

2 Cor. 6:1-2;  Psa. 102:13; Psa. 30:5; Tit. 2:11-14

With God’s grace and favor, I welcome you to the month of April. April the month of Easter - when we remember the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, His Cross, His resurrection and His victory over sin, sorrow and death. It is also MFH’s birth month! Therefore, it’s a double celebration for us, and our theme is “The Cross: Grace and Favor”.

How did Christ display grace to us? He did so through His Cross which symbolizes His willingness to give His life for ours. There is no greater display of the grace of God than the Cross of Christ. A song writer wrote “....on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied, for every sin on Him was laid…” He was indeed wounded for our transgressions (Isa 53:5). This same grace brings us salvation and favor. God’s grace is so complete and full that we can never exhaust it. His grace teaches us to live soberly, righteously, and to deny any form of ungodliness. We also are called to imitate the God of grace by sharing His grace with the world (Tit. 2:11-14).

We are admonished not to receive God’s grace in vain - 2 Cor 6:1-2, but  to fix our gaze on the Cross (Heb. 12:2). In doing this, the favor of God will be our companion (Psa. 30:5). This is indeed your season of favor (Psa. 102:13). Remember that God’s grace is costly - Jesus paid for it with His Blood. Please treat it with great care and honor. Dietrich Bonhoeffer in “Cost of Discipleship” wrote “Christian today are living by cheap grace”. He says, "Cheap grace means the justification of sin without the justification of the sinner. Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance, baptism without church discipline, communion without confession. Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ.”

The Lord is risen for you! In this series, we shall examine preparation for miracles, season of favor, The Cross: grace & Favor, and Growing in grace.  Peace unto you!
